Join the RASC Victoria Centre this June 26^th – June 29^th, as we host the 2014 General Assembly.

The General Assembly is an exciting once-a-year event that brings together RASC members from coast-to-coast to participate in the Society's annual general meeting and discuss some of the world's great astronomical activities.

In 2013, the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada made major changes to its governance structure to come into line with the provisions of the Canada Not for Profit Corporations Act. As of the Thunder Bay General Assembly in 2013, a board of directors is responsible for the running of the RASC, replacing the National Council.

Leo Enright (1943-2009) was a prominent member of the RASC, whose many contributions furthered the RASC’s educational and public outreach goals.

At the 2014 January 12 Society Board of Directors meeting, MOTION BOD14105 was Carried, which accepted the 2014 Awards Committee report. In the report, the Awards Committee recommended that the Board approve the following awards for presentation in 2014:

Fellow Award

The RASC has just launched a limited-run exclusive “vintage” t-shirt, featuring a centuries-old design from the Society’s rich archives. The striking image is an evocative invitation to an astronomical past which has shaped where we are today, and whose traces can still be seen in our science. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada (RASC),  the astronomical and scientific communities are eagerly anticipating Comet ISON’s appearance on November 28^th.

The RASC astrosketcher community is pleased to announce that the winner of the 2013 Summer Solstice to Autumn Equinox Contest is Gerry Smerchanski of the Winnipeg Centre!
