STANDING COMMETTEE ON OBSERVATIONAL ACTIVITIES

                             AURORA SECTION



To evaluate the present status of the auroral program, all participating

groups are asked to send reports to the National Co-ordinator. Only one

conmunication on auroral observations has been received since Bulletin No.4

was issued; thus the co-ordinator has little information of current acti-

vities across the country. No requests have been made for assistance in

establishing new programs nor is there any indication that existing

programs are being actively continued.


In order to let our members know of the amount and type of aurora). observing

across Canada, I propose that two representatives from each Centre prepare

a summary, outlining the extent of aurora observing in their area; these

will be shown at the General Assembly in Montreal, May 19-21.


An excellent pictorial and descriptive report of an auroral display was

received from A. Ostrander, Toronto Centre, on the aurora of July 8/9, 1966,

as seen from Presqu'ile Point near Trenton, Ontario. His report is a most

artistic one and it will form part of the exhibit of auroral phenomena at

Montreal.


The Co-ordinator would welcome other contributions pictorial, descriptive

or statistical.
