The trustees of the Centre Projects Fund announced at the RASC General Assembly the award of three grants totalling $2,034 to the Hamilton, New Brunswick and Winnipeg Centres in support of their public outreach and member services.
The awards were as follows:
- Hamilton Centre - $375 towards an upgrade of their observatory flooring for safety.
- New Brunswick - $556 towards the purchase of a solar telescope for public outreach activities.
- Winnipeg - $1,093 towards the purchase of banners promoting the Centre for use at public outreach events.
A more detailed report on these grants will appear in the Journal. Under the terms of the Centre Projects Fund each Centre will also report on the application of these funds towards their activities and mandate.
The Centre Projects Fund is funded in large part through the Society's Sustaining Membership program whereby members voluntarily contribute to the Society's programs and services by choosing to be Sustaining Members upon their membership renewal. Sustaining Members receive a tax receipt for a portion of their contributions. A total of 97 members of the Society contributed in this way in 2006.
The next application deadline for the Centre Projects Fund is December 31, 2007.
