Today is the anniversary of Nicholas Copernicus' birth (1473 February 19), and Google marked the event by creating a animated doodle of the heliocentric (Sun-centred) Copernican system. The Star, the largest circulation daily in the country, quotes the RASC as saying that "It’s a nice tribute to a man who’s in the same league as other great scientists, including Sir Isaac Newton, Charles Darwin and Albert Einstein...The general colours and layout of the animated image resemble the planetary diagrams that one finds in 16th and 17th century works".
