Geoff Gaherty (1941-2016) was an amateur astronomer who wrote about observing and won the Chant Medal of the Royal Astronomical Society of Canada in 2008. Geoff earned a B.Sc. from McGill University in mathematics and physics in 1964, an M.A. from the University of Toronto in anthropology in 1966 and a Ph.D. from the University of Toronto also in anthropology in 1970.
