RASC Vancouver: Moon 2024

Event Date:
Thursday, July 8, 2021 - 22:30 to 23:45 EDT

Moon 2024

Presented by Matthew Borghese

RASC Vancouver Centre

This talk will take place Thursday, July 8, 2021 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM PDT (10:30 pm - 1:30 am EDT)

Abstract:
50 years ago, the first human set foot on the Moon. Now, the United States and partners are working on sending the first woman and the next man to the Moon by 2024. Join NASA/JPL Solar System Ambassador Matthew Borghese and learn more about NASA's Artemis program and Canada's role in building a permanent space station in lunar orbit.

Matthew Borghese Bio:

As the only NASA/Jet Propulsion Laboratory Solar System Ambassador in Canada, Matthew is on a goodwill mission to share NASA's story and help connect students to Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) careers.

Matthew delivers lectures from kindergarten to university students on a variety of topics, from learning about the lunar eclipse to discovering exoplanets. He also leads hands-on events from building robots at TELUS World of Science to helping Girl Guides obtain their astronomy badges.  Additionally, as an ambassador, Matthew provides media relations for ongoing NASA programs, connecting journalists to scientists and explorers working on tomorrow's front-page stories.

RASC Ottawa: Monthly Virtual Meeting

Event Date:
Friday, July 9, 2021 - 19:30 to 21:30 EDT

Monthly Virtual Meeting

RASC Ottawa

A reminder of the upcoming virtual meeting on Friday, July 9th at 7:30 PM EDT.

NOTE:  This is one week later than normal to accommodate those who are taking July 2nd as a long weekend

They are looking for observation images. Please send these images to Dave Chisholm (meetingchair@ottawa.rasc.ca) and Chris Teron (chris@teron.ca) by end-of-day Monday, July 5th for inclusion in the slides.

NOTE:  To allow more people to share, and keep the meeting from going on too long, they are now limiting observation reports to a maximum of 5 slides per presenter at 1 minute per slide.

They anticipate that there will some solar eclipse images and therefore are planning for a slightly extended observation time.

If you would like to share more observations/content please contact Dave Chisholm (meetingchair@ottawa.rasc.ca) so that he can schedule you for a specific time at an upcoming meeting.

They are also looking for additional content and talks for our November and December meetings right now.

The agenda for this meeting is as follows:

- Ottawa Skies - Dave Chisholm
- Pierre Paquette (RASC Montréal Centre) - Ancient Astronomical Instrument and Babylonian Astronomy
- M&M Challenge (over the 5-minute break)
- David Shuman (RASC Montréal Centre) - Space Shuttles and Rockets
- Observations
- Observing Challenges

If you are NOT presenting a talk or observation you will need to register in advance for this Zoom webinar by clicking on the link below:
