Canadian astronomers have consistently "punched above their weight class" in astronomy for many years. As astronomy has developed it is increasingly a global endeavour and Canada participates in many joint projects including the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope and the Gemini Telescopes (North and South).

Royal Astronomical Society of Canada Education Programs

The national RASC Education Committee helps to promote astronomy education for everyone from the school-age child to the adult. The RASC offers several education programs including:

This program provides funds to help Centres bring speakers to their area from other parts of the country.

Dr. Sara Seager (2022 -)

Professor Sara Seager was born and grew up in Toronto, Canada. Among her first memories is a trip to a “star party” with her father, to see the moon through a telescope—spectacular! Professor Seager graduated from Jarvis Collegiate Institute, and studied at the University of Toronto. After graduating with a B.Sc. in the Math and Physics Specialist Program at the U of T, Seager attended the Ph.D. program in Astronomy at Harvard.

The RASC awards a number of honours each year to promote and advance astronomy in Canada.
