Committee Mandate

The Nominating Committee’s mandate is to ensure that elections to the Board are conducted in accordance with the Society’s By-Law, to undertake, organize, and execute the annual Board elections, and to consider other matters related to the nomination of candidates. The role of the committee is to present a list of volunteers willing to serve in soon-to-be vacant Board positions prior to the General Assembly.

The Light Pollution Abatement (LPA) Committee is a Permanent Committee of the RASC Board of Directors. It co-ordinates and expands the RASC's efforts to fight the detrimental effects of light pollution on human health, the environment, and (of course) the night sky, while helping to encourage energy conservation.

The Information Technology Committee is a Permanent Committee of the Board. Its terms of reference are

• Consists of up to 13 members of the Society, plus one liaison from the Board.
• Committee can appoint positions that become vacant or were not filled by Board.

Committee Mandate

The Constitution Committee is a committee of the Society that is responsible for managing changes to the Society's Constitution (By-Law #1) and making recommendations for improving the overall governance of the Society. It also advises the National Council on proposed changes to Centre constitutions. The Constitution Committee maintains the Sample Centre Bylaws which outline a recommended constitution for RASC Centres that is consistent with the Society's By-Law.

The RASC's Awards Committee is charged with reviewing nominations for the Society's major awards and making recommendations to the National Council for the presentation of these awards to their recipients. The Royal Astronomical Society of Canada grants a number of awards from time to time, based on merit for research, study, writing, and service to the astronomical community.
